A clunking sound from underneath the car became more and more apparent and it got to the stage where I was beginning to feel uncomfortable and honestly a bit unsafe. I was very pleased with the service they have provided at the garage and how helpful and honest they were. I had MOT done there , while doing MOT they noticed that the battery clamp was missing and they ordered it and installed in my car (charging only for the part) . Previously for about four years I used to go to another garage for MOT and servicing my car, every year they charged me for full service of my car. I only drive about two thousands miles a year. When I mentioned it to my friends they said my car does not need a full service every year (because I drive so little) and advised me to change the garage. I was unlucky enough to break down with a complete ignition failure on a trip from Southampton to Dulwich in a slightly vintage 1.8 Golf Cabriolet. The first garage I rang was utterly unhelpful, but then by fortune I got in touch with Autocentre South. Bobby is the proprietor. After a short chat, he got one of his mechanics to tow the car in for no charge when a commercial operation would have charged the earth. He then honestly said with the need for spare parts the car would be unfixable that day , but he would be in touch. So I did not have to hang around and took the train back to Southampton. That evening I had a phone call with a quote and an ETA for work to be completed. Everything was done as expected to a high standard on a car most mechanics in any garage would rarely see these days.
You can tell the quality of a workman and his garage by the way the workshop looks. In Autocentresouth it looks like a workshop before the Top Gear Team get there. Really shipshape. Cannot recommend them too highly.

My mini has been 'ill' for many years, nobody seemed able to fix it. I would be sold a new battery and sent on my way. The problem got worse (the alarm going off whilst I was driving, windows going up and down etc) I contacted a local garage - Autocentre to ask whether it would be possible for them to collect my car (which had yet another flat battery) and deliver it to the mini garage. I work as a driving instructor, franchise with one of the major driving schools and therefore I have to use certain garage for service, tyre changes etc. so I avoid paying unnecessarily.
